“Carrying that vital spark of originality” Graham Watts (Chairman of Critics’ Circle Dance Section UK)

“Unabashedly emotional” Sanjoy Roy, The Guardian

Ella Mesma has worked with dance, poetry, theatre, paint and circus to explore identity and transformation.

Her work is intricately layered in meaning and uses folkloric dance forms in a contemporary context. Ella tends to work collaboratively with the company and the ‘elephants in the room’ and finds herself interested in explorations of dance as a ritual, dance for transformation and using dance and theatre as a platform to express ideas around politics, society and community. She has created work with a number of leading arts organisations including Sadler’s Wells, Dance City and Serendipity. Ella Mesma is currently an IGNITE Artist at The Trinity centre in Bristol and is supported by Metal and produced by Big Feast.
